I finally replaced the battery in my old Patrol after putting it off for way too long, and now I’ve got this heavy, crusty thing sitting in my garage that I have no idea what to do with. I don’t want to just toss it in the regular trash because I know that’s probably illegal and definitely not great for the environment, but I also don’t know if the scrap places actually take them or if I have to pay someone to haul it away. I asked a couple of my neighbors and they said they just leave them outside for the cleaning crew, but that doesn’t feel right to me either. I remember reading somewhere that some shops will take your old one when you buy a new battery, but I ordered mine online and the delivery guy just dropped it off and left without mentioning anything about the old unit. I tried looking up the rules for hazardous waste disposal in the capital but the information is surprisingly scattered and unclear. I did manage to find a decent source that explained the general process and what the guidelines are supposed to be, so that helped a bit, but I’m still not 100% sure where to actually take the thing. Has anyone here successfully disposed of an old battery in Abu Dhabi recently? Is there a specific recycling center or auto shop that accepts walk-ins for this kind of stuff? I’d really hate to just hold onto it forever because my wife is already complaining about the smell and the space it’s taking up.
